Leaving Home by T.A. Chase
Book four in the Home Series
Chaz struggles with his addiction, while continuing to do his job of saving bull riders, but it’s all getting out of control.
Charles 'Chaz' O’Brien has been at the top of his profession for many years, enduring injuries that would have crushed a lesser man. Yet the top bullfighter isn’t calling it quits any time soon. He does his job with a fierce joy, all the while he’s hiding a terrible secret. One that could get him suspended, and could end up killing the very men he protects.
Peter Skinner loves working for Les Hardin and Randy Hersch. His bosses are amazing men, but seeing how in love they are every day makes Peter’s heart ache. He wishes he could find a man to love him like that, but he knows they’re hard to come by in Wyoming where he lives.
Until one day, Peter finds a man strung-out in an alley, and Peter is the only one around to deal with it. When Peter and Chaz meet, their worlds collide in a way that could be the best thing in the world for them both, or the worst experience of their lives.

This is the worst book in this series. It reads as a book she wrote when she first began to write. You would not believe that this is the same author of the first 3 books. The book is edited as if by a Britt. There were way too many sex scenes at ridiculous times. The personality of the MC's were inconsistent. For example, Peter gives Chaz a speech about how sex is sacred, yet he hops into bed with Chaz that very same night. Did I mention that Peter is a 30year old virgin! Yet he throws out his beliefs in a matter of hours. This book is not worth the price. I intend to return it. I don't know what the author was thinking when she wrote this book. I have higher hopes for Juan and Yancey's story. In addition, the author seems to have forgotten that Derek St.Martin was also a drug addict and an alcoholic simply because he hated being in the closet! Yet, no one gave him grief or tried to help him expect his brother. To be clear, I AM NOT CONDONING CHAD 'S ACTIONS, NOR AM I LETTING HIM OFF 4 CAUSING THE ACCIDENT. However, Chaz was in constant pain and was overmedicating so he could live with a tolerable level of pain, not to get high. The family prided themselves on the fact that they are always willing to help those in need. Yet, EVERYONE forgot about that except Les and Peter.
When Chaz came back to Peter after rehab and getting clean his explanations to Peter about his addiction was stilted, unrealistic, and sounded like a prepared speech. The story felt incomplete and fake. Do not waste $5:50on this book.

Leaving Home edition by TA Chase Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
While I love a good cowboy story, it needs to be more than descriptions of sex to BE a story. This one just doesn't make it there. There is a story but it's mostly one of sudden happenings. It was has to find a thread that tied it all together. I did not get a real feel for either Chaz or Peter. Somehow, they just remained a vague image and never became real. The story reads like a first attempt, not like a skilled author.
I was really looking forward to Peter's story, and the expectation, based on the previous 3 "Home" books, was pretty high. Unfortunately, this one fell flat. The story could have been so much more, but there were inconsistencies in the timeline that just didn't work for me. I'm a huge fan of T.A. Chase's, so was disappointed. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Juan and Yancey's story. The overriding problem with the reading of this one was piss-poor editing, and for God's sake, why was this published as tho' it was written by a Brit? Chase is from the mid-West and doesn't spell words the British way. Realised? Foetal position? Colour? C'mon! And the general overall feel of the dialog was stilted and way too proper to be ranch-rodeo speak. So I don't know if the fact that this was published in the UK has anything to do with it, but it's almost as if the UK publisher decided to "fix" the English. Not cool.
I've enjoyed this whole series, I liked this one just fine as well! Maybe not as good as the first ones, I didn't like Chaz much and Peter but a bit weak for my tastes, but I think it added nicely to the overall series.
Chaz has issues, and comes across as a user pretty quickly, taking advantage of Peter's generosity. With the help of Les, Chaz sorts his issues out and gets help, unfortunately not until after he hurts Peter. I do think Peter jumped in to the relationship way to soon, physically anyway. After staying a virgin for so long, to jump in to bed with a man he hardly knows what a bit out of character. But he's young, and it didn't bother me too much.
I really like Les and Randy, I think they have built a great support network for all of these damaged men, I was happy to see Chaz and Peter get the help they needed and hopefully have a happy life together!
This series has a really strong message about family. "..the best families were the ones they built for themselves." and this continues in this book.
The story focuses very much on Peter, who has been rejected by his family, and now lives at the Hardin ranch and works as an accountant for Les. The story starts with Peter collecting his belongings but more importantly being ready to start over in a new home. "It might not be the family he'd been born with, but it was the one he'd chosen, and, to be honest, the men and women Peter was going to see in a few minutes were the people he felt the most real with. They had opened their hearts and homes to him, even when his grandfather had treated Les so poorly."
Peter and his friends, are all good people. They go out of their way to give people a second chance and are not judgmental. It was nice to see the introduction of a character who had flaws, someone who was battling demons and making wrong decisions.
Peter finds Chaz in a alley - collapsed, dirty and strung out. He rescues him (he's one of the good guys) and takes him home to the ranch. Peter actually feels an immediate attraction to Chaz which has him puzzled. "He needed to get a handle on this weird attraction. There was no way in hell Peter could want a dirty druggie who was more than likely homeless."
The story follows the development of a relationship between Peter and Chaz. They face obstacles, including Peter's friends protectiveness and of course, Chaz's dependence on pills. However, it is easy to feel sympathatic towards Chaz (while at the same time wanting to shake some sense into him). He desperately wants to do the right thing by Peter "He was a good man who saw something worthwhile in Chaz, and Chaz wanted to live up to Peter's expectations. but doesn't not have the faith in himself "He'd screwed up enough times in his life that he wasn't the kind of guy to make vows to people."
This story was well-paced, the characters were fabulous and there was some great drama. Les' interference at the end of the book annoyed me slightly as it delayed the happy ending I was hoping for, but there was a level of realism to the conclusion of the book that gave confidence that Peter and Chaz were definitely destined for happy ever after!
